Construct 240 nos. latrine in 6 villages in joint collaboration with beneficiaries

Water and Sanitation: VSSU considers water and sanitation to be two critical areas in which it can make a positive impact in the community. It does so by working to improve access to safe water supplies, by ensuring adequate drainage of current water sources, and by enhancing facilities for bathing and human waste.

 Last year VSSU invested Rs.2,10,000 in constructing 286 communal latrines in different villages. These latrines have helped to improve levels of hygiene in the community, thereby working to prevent communicable diseases and protecting vulnerable water sources from organic waste. We have also develop several communal bathing places for local residents as a further incentive to improve the hygiene level of the area.

The sanitation programme of VSSU is completed in 14 villages in joint collaboration with the beneficiaries. Total construction cost of a latrine is 1500/-.The beneficiary contributed only 300/- and VSSU credit without interest is 1200/- which is payable with in 12 months. The mother of preprimary children has the facility to get the interest-free sanitation loan.
